At Urbanhome, we believe a bedroom can do more than offer a place to sleep. It can help someone rest, recover, dream, grow, and feel completely at home.
This year, our Urban Angel Bedroom Makeover focuses on Nicholas, a 14-year-old from Windsor-Essex. Nicholas is preparing for major scoliosis surgery this summer. He also recently graduated from Grade 8.
As he gets ready for high school, we wanted his room to support this next chapter.
Our team designed a space that feels calm, personal, and more grown up. We wanted Nicholas to have a room where he can rest, recover, game, spend time with friends, and feel completely himself.
Jodi Mason, Owner and Principal Designer of Urbanhome Interior Design, created Urban Angel as a way to give back to local families through thoughtful design.
Each year, Urbanhome works with the community to choose a child or teen facing significant life challenges. With support from local businesses, we create a bedroom transformation filled with care, comfort, and intention.
More Than a Bedroom Makeover
When we first began planning Nicholas’s room, we knew this project had to go beyond furniture and decor.
Nicholas needed a sanctuary.
The room needed to support his recovery after surgery. It also needed to feel fun, personal, and age-appropriate.
Because Nicholas is starting high school, we wanted the design to grow with him. The room includes space to sleep, relax, game, organize, and recharge.
Every choice had purpose. We considered comfort, layout, lighting, storage, textures, and how Nicholas will use the room every day.
Designed With Healing in Mind
A bedroom can change how someone feels each day. The right space can bring calm, comfort, and confidence during a difficult season.
For Nicholas, we wanted the room to feel peaceful and practical. We also wanted it to feel personal, fun, and completely his own.
The furniture layout creates better function. The bedding adds softness and comfort. The lighting helps the room feel warm and calm.
We also focused on storage and finishing details. These choices help make everyday life feel easier, more comfortable, and more supported.
A Community Coming Together
Urban Angel works because local people say yes.
Local businesses, suppliers, trades, delivery partners, and volunteers helped bring Nicholas’s room to life.
Some donated product. Others donated time, labour, delivery, materials, or installation support.
Every contribution mattered. Each one helped create a meaningful bedroom transformation for Nicholas and his family.
Bringing the Design to Life
Before the room came together, our team created 3D renderings. These visuals helped Nicholas and his family see the full design plan before reveal day.
The design includes rich blue walls, warm wood slat details, soft bedding, layered textures, and ambient lighting. A starry ceiling adds a special moment and creates a calming effect.
We also planned a lounge area with a sofa, round rug, and coffee table. This gives Nicholas a place to relax, watch TV, or hang out with friends.
His gaming desk supports one of the activities he enjoys most. It also gives him a space that feels personal and connected to his interests.
Together, these details create a bedroom that feels comfortable, functional, and completely his own.
These 3D renderings show the vision behind Nicholas’s Urban Angel Bedroom Makeover. Each element was chosen with comfort, function, healing, and personality in mind.
